"The Russian State Music TV and Radio Centre" (FSE "RSMC") was established in 1996 as a legal successor of the Head Music Department of the All-Union Radio, a unit of the USSR Gosteleradio. Professor Gennadi Cherkasov (1930-2002), Russia’s People’s Artist became the first RSMC director. Since 1984 till the day he died he was also the leader of the Chamber Orchestra of the Moscow State Conservatoire. His diverse activities were closely interconnected with teaching at the Moscow Conservatoire and acting as the artistic director of the Head Department of Music broadcasting of Gosteleradio (later the Russian State Music TV and Radio Centre).
At present Irina Gerasimova heads the Centre. The Centre is an umbrella organisation for Orpheus radio, broadcasting classical music and a number of collectives of musicians, engaged in diverse touring and performing activities, including recording exclusive programmes for Orpheus radio:
The Symphony Orchestra Sergei Politikov, the People’s Artist of Russia, is its artistic director and chief conductor. Viktor Ivanov, People’s Artist of Russia is its conductor.
The Yuri Silantiev Academic Grand Concert Orchestra. Aleksandr Klevitsky, a well-known composer and conductor, is head of the orchestra.
The Academic Grand Choir, including the group “Masters of Choral Singing” Artistic directors: professor Lyudmila Ermakova, People’s Artist of the USSR and professor Lev Kontorovich, Russia’s Merited Worker of Arts.
Folk Academic Choir of Traditional Russian Song. Its artistic directors are professor Nikolai Kutuzov, People’s Artist of the USSR and composer, and Aleksandr Darmastuk, Russia’s Merited Worker of Arts. The Choir also has a dance group and "Feenist Balalayka", the ensemble of Russian folk instrumentalists. Professor Igor Oblikin, Russia’s People’s Artist is the artistic director of the two groups.
The Chamber Choir "Sintez-Cappella" Composer Ghelsiat Shaidulova, Russia’s People’s Artist is the choir’s artistic director.
The Jazz Orchestra "George Garanian Big Band" Artistic director is George Garanian, Russia’s People’s Artist, and vocal group "A’cappella Expresss" Andrei Tunik is its artistic director.
Other units of the FSE RSMC include
Orpheus Radio, Programming director – Igor Ovrutzki. Radio Orpheus is Russia’s only radio broadcaster of academic classical music. The station is a member of the European Broadcasting Unit (EBU), representing the Russian Federation at UNESCO’s World Tribune of modern composers.

The Russian State Music TV and Radio Centre organises and holds concerts, acts as an educator, offers services of its library of music, its tailor’s shop and the shop for repairs and tuning of music instruments. The collectives of musicians united by our Centre are well known in Russia and abroad. Our collectives of musicians can cope with the most difficult artistic problems. They are always ready to cooperate with young composers, conductors, vocalists and instrumentalists.
